David Bolinsky: Fantastic voyage inside the cell

Doing this TED talk, I say a lot of things that made me think. Looking deeply inside the cell is crazy. I never knew that the inside of our cells in our body performed the things that it did. Bolinsky mentioned in his TED talk that one day everything will actually be figured out and then peoples health could be managed better. I do believe him. There is a day when a very smart scientist will figure the inside of the cell out completely.

Surfing the Net- How many hours a week do you surf the net?

Gever Tulley- 5 Dangerous things you should let your kids do (TED talk)

In this talk Gever Tulley talked about the 5 things you should let your kids do (actually he mentions 6). Really his talk was about safety and how to raise your kids to be creative, confident, and in control of the environment.
The 6 things that you should let your kids do are:
1.) Play with fire
2.) Own a pocket knife
3.) Throw a spear
4.) Deconstruct appliances
5.) Break the DMCA (Digital Millennium Compact Act)
6.) Drive a car

Gever Tulley is the founder of Tinkering school and he like to build things with kids. In this talk I agree with Tulley in some way and others I don't. Like for example, he says that playing with fire is a way kids Can learn from the things. I agree with him when he talked about overprotected kids. A lot of parents are too overprotected of their kids. Tulley's 6 things, I totally disagree with him. He talks about safety or kids, but a 2-9 year old playing with fire is not safe. He also mentioned that at his school (Tinkering), the kids that attend goes home with cuts, bruises, and may be bleeding. That is not a safety for kids. Tulley may think that these 6 things will help kids learn, develop, create, and control the environment, but to me it's unsafe, and can result in severe injuries.

Sir Ken Robinson-TED Talk

Throughout Sir Ken Robinson's talk, he mentioned some very good points. Does school kill creativity? I think school does kill creativity. Throughout school, students are required to take classes like Science, History, Math, etc., but what about exploratory's or electives? In some schools classes like yearbook, agriculture, band, chorus, etc. are offered. In college you have a couple of electives. But not enough to make the students feel the excitment or fun that is really in school. I believe if more creativity is offered in school, the students would feel more excited to learn and to attend school. The teachers and the students can come together and bring more creativity into the schools. Maybe more after school programs or more activities to do at school could change things. Schools also kill creativity with SOLs. I know kids are suppose to learn, but they more test; the more creativity is killed.

Education and the Internet

I have used the Internet in my education many time. I use it for research, e-mail, etc. I think in five years from now the internet dealing with education will br a lot different. Change is needed because a lot of people can post anything on the internet and it does not have to be reliable information. And some students can do research and not know the difference. For example, Wikipedia is a website that needs to be taken off the internet. It has false information and it is very misleading. Five years from now I think the interent will expand to many different things to help students with their education. To connect the different peoples and nations of the world in an academic way, the internet needs a better connection between the nations and a better way for people to see and understand what is being said without interruptions.

I am the next generation of teachers and thinkers. I think the solution is to expand learning online and to get rid of the spam and junk websites online.
